WHY LINCOLN LOGS?
What differentiates Lincoln Log Homes from other log home manufacturers? |
Lincoln Logs International chooses only to supply what is not readily available at your local retailer to save you money. The kits include the precision pre-cut/pre-notched logs, exposed first floor log ceiling joists if you purchase a two story kit, assembly hardware, weather-stripping and house plans. All the other popular log home features found in much more expensive competitor packages can be purchased through your builder or other sources for much less. The house plans include - the elevation views, foundation detail, fireplace (if in plan), stack sheet for erecting the logs, roof detail, window detail, interior floor plan, electrical, plumbing, porch and deck detail.
Many of our log home competitors sell a variety of materials along with the log home kit; such as log siding, timber frame products, wood beams, trusses, roofing, windows, doors, etc. In most cases, additional materials being shipped require extra trucks ... at extra cost to the buyer. Then, there is the necessity of storing the materials that would arrive at the same time the logs arrives. Unless the home materials are stored correctly in a building that offers protection from the elements, trusses warp; doors warp; windows break and warp; and material often is stolen from the job site. The bottom line is when you buy a Lincoln Logs kit you have more flexibility to design the home you want and use the materials that fit your budget. Save money by purchasing other features separately.

Lincoln Logs offers so much more than other log home kit manufacturers .... other exclusive features include: |
EXCLUSIVE WEATHER-LOK CORNERS:
The logs are machined to close tolerance. The whole log interlocking corners offer stability unsurpassed in the log home and log cabin industry. |

EXCLUSIVE WEATHER-LOK GROOVES:
Top and bottom of each log is v-grooved to accommodate a one inch diameter polyethylene backer rod. The groove ensures the proper horizontal placement of this insulation in the center of the log, sealing out the weather and sealing in the heat. |
|
|
WEATHER-LOK GROOVES |
Other log home manufacturers have a similar but smaller groove; however, the groove extends to the end of each log, to the corners. This forms a trough for water to run into the corners. NOT SO WITH LINCOLN. WE STOP THE GROOVE AT THE INSIDE OF THE CORNER. This technology is far better in eliminating water seepage. Furthermore, the “Weather-Lok” corners are more aesthetically pleasing. |

STRENGTHENED BUTT JOINTS
The butt joints in long sections of the walls of a log house can be the weakest part of the total assembly. Lincoln Logs design incorporates two 1” x 6” wooden dowels at each joint, two weather-strip seals and a “log hog” fastener to tighten the joint snug to keep the logs from twisting over time causing leaks. |

Only with Lincoln Logs does the buyer have the following two options:
(see the construction page for details)
• PURCHASE A LOG HOME IN LOG KIT FORM:
In log home kit form, the individual logs are pre-cut to size, pre-notched, and numbered for easy assembly at the build site. A stack sheet is furnished for each log wall. Blueprints are drawn for each log home and accompany the log home kit. In addition, a log construction manual or an instructional video tape is available to every Lincoln Log purchaser upon request.
• PURCHASE PRE-ASSEMBLED LOG WALLS:
All pre-assembled log walls are assembled at our factory with trained personnel. The walls are loaded on trucks and shipped in large sections, then adjoined at the building site with the use of a 25 ton crane. This option requires open space around the home for the crane and will incorporate a different corner design than the kit option due to a die-lock condition in the notch and pass configuration. |
There is no one specific wood species which is superior for building log homes. Every species has its own strengths and weaknesses. Lincoln Logs International uses only 8 ” Southern Yellow Pine logs. We believe this species has the best overall physical properties for beautiful and long lasting log homes. The logs are grown between Virginia and North Carolina. We continue to purchase from 3 separate families so we have more control over quality and pricing. |
Southern Yellow Pine has the following advantages:
• Beautifies as it ages
• Good insulating properties
• Moderately hard, stiff, strong and shock resistant
• Decay resistant and stable in service
• Higher density to hold fasteners well
• Little shrinkage and movement in service
• Known for deep and even penetration of stains
and chemical preservatives |

All logs are air dried to a specific moisture content and precision cut at the Kannapolis, NC manufacturing plant. They are cut to 8” wide and 6” tall with a 1” crown on the round profile. You have an option of having the profile cut round or flat for the interior walls. All exterior walls are rounded to a 1” crown.
